Los Alamos is high up the Pajarito plateau at an altitude of about 7,500 feet. As a result, summers are warm and pleasant, not too hot. Winters are cold but sunny, except for occasional snow. Outdoor activities are plentiful - hiking, biking, jogging in the summer, and skiing down Pajarito Mountain (just 15 minutes away) in the winter. Santa Fe is close by - just a 45 minute drive. You will find many good restaurants there, not to mention theatre, concerts, the world-famous Santa Fe opera (in summer) and a variety of other amenities.
